These resources are based on eight years of research with primary school students’ Multiplicative Thinking (MT).
What we learned from this research was that students understand some aspects of MT, but very few show an understanding of how different aspects are connected, which leaves them vulnerable with regards to essential skills and knowledge for further success.
The resource booklets(Connections 1 – 4) include curriculum linking documents, and an overview of MT. Other booklets include assessment instruments which are ready for teachers to use and sets of targeted teaching and learning tasks.
These booklets are provided for each of the four sets of multiplicative connections. This comprehensive set of materials is aimed at Pre-Foundation (Kindergarten) to Year 9 with the intention being to help students develop a rich conceptual grasp of MT. There is ample scope for teachers to modify teaching tasks as needed.
